U.S. Customs and Border Protection Seizes Counterfeit Watches in Indianapolis, Preventing $4.5 Million Loss
U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Indianapolis express consignment facility intercepted a shipment containing 96 counterfeit watches on July 30. The shipment, originating from Hong Kong, was destined for a residence in Ohio. The watches bore trademarks of well-known brands such as Swatch, Audemars Piguet, and Rolex. CBP's Centers of Excellence and Expertise confirmed the items were counterfeit, leading to their seizure. The potential retail value of these watches, if genuine, was estimated at over $4.5 million. Brett Mueller, Port Director in Indianapolis, emphasized the economic impact of counterfeit goods, which cost U.S. businesses billions annually and deprive the country of jobs and tax revenue. CBP remains committed to combating counterfeit smuggling to protect communities from hazardous knockoffs.
