MIT Historian Reveals New Insights on Boston Tea Party Artifact
Tristan Brown, a historian at MIT, has uncovered new information about a Chinese tea label long thought to be a relic from the Boston Tea Party. The label, displayed at Boston's Old South Meeting House, was believed to have been taken from a tea chest during the 1773 protest. However, Brown's research indicates that the label actually dates to the 19th century, associated with Smith, Archer & Co, an American import-export company. This discovery challenges the artifact's historical narrative, highlighting how collective memory and historical interpretation can evolve over time.
