Rescue Teams Successfully Evacuate Five Villagers from Flooded Laos Cave, Two Still Missing
In Laos, rescue workers have successfully evacuated five villagers who were trapped in a flooded cave for ten days. The villagers had entered the cave in search of valuable minerals but were caught by flash flooding that blocked their exit. The rescue operation involved teams from Laos, Thailand, Japan, Malaysia, Indonesia, France, and Australia, many of whom had experience from the 2018 Thai cave rescue. The first villager was rescued on Friday, with the remaining four extracted the following day. Two villagers remain missing, and rescue teams are continuing their search efforts. The operation was complicated by the cave's narrow passages and high water levels, but a decrease in water levels allowed the trapped individuals to be rescued.
