Trump Administration Proposes $1.3 Billion Increase for Freight Infrastructure in 2027 Budget
The Trump administration has released its fiscal year 2027 budget proposal, which includes a significant increase in funding for the Department of Transportation's Nationally Significant Multimodal Freight & Highway Projects program, also known as INFRA. The proposal suggests an additional $1.3 billion for INFRA, aimed at reducing highway congestion and addressing freight bottlenecks. This funding would supplement the $8 billion allocated over five years by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. However, the budget also proposes cuts to other DOT programs, including the Capital Investment Grants, National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure, and RAISE grants. Additionally, the Environmental Protection Agency's budget would see reductions, particularly affecting diesel transportation and climate research.
