Illinois State Police Conduct Occupant Restraint Enforcement Patrols, Issue Citations
The Illinois State Police (ISP) Troop 9, under the command of Captain Bruce Waggoner, conducted Occupant Restraint Enforcement Patrols (OREP) in Effingham, Fayette, Marion, Wabash, Wayne, and White counties during August and September. These patrols were specifically designed to enhance enforcement of occupant protection laws, focusing on individuals who fail to use safety belts and child restraint devices. The enforcement efforts resulted in 82 safety belt citations, 2 child restraint citations, a total of 113 citations, and 26 written warnings. The ISP emphasized that these patrols reinforce the message that buckling up saves lives and targets those who disregard the law. This initiative was funded through the Illinois Department of Transportation.
