Columbia University Appoints Scott Pelley and Sharyn Alfonsi as Journalists-in-Residence for 2026-27
Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism has announced the appointment of veteran journalists Scott Pelley and Sharyn Alfonsi as journalists-in-residence for the 2026-27 academic year. This marks their first major public roles since leaving CBS News' '60 Minutes' amid a significant overhaul of the program. As part of their new roles, Pelley and Alfonsi will engage with students through lectures, workshops, and special events focused on reporting, investigative journalism, and sourcing. They will also contribute articles to the 'Columbia Journalism Review.' The appointments are part of Columbia Journalism School's CJS2030: Democracy Initiative, which aims to enhance accountability reporting and investigative journalism. Both journalists have had distinguished careers, with Pelley having spent 37 years at CBS News and Alfonsi known for her investigative reporting on various critical issues.
