Lexington Citizens Host Fourth Annual Night of Remembrance for Drug Overdose Victims
Citizens in Lexington, North Carolina, organized the fourth annual Night of Remembrance to honor individuals who have died due to fentanyl and other illicit drugs. The event, hosted by the nonprofit organization Race Against Drugs, took place at the old courthouse, now the Davidson County Historical Museum. Mike and Lorie Loomis, along with their son, were instrumental in organizing the gathering. The primary goal was to provide support to families affected by drug loss, help those struggling with mental health issues, and reduce the stigma associated with addiction. Over 200 names were read aloud during the ceremony, and luminaries were placed at the courthouse steps to commemorate the victims. Information on drug addiction resources and local support groups was available, and free naloxone, a medication used to treat opioid overdose symptoms, was distributed.
