Denmark's New Government Affirms Greenland's Right to Self-Determination
Denmark's newly formed government has pledged to uphold Greenland's right to self-determination, as outlined in a recent policy document. The document, signed by leaders of Denmark's four-party coalition, emphasizes the principles of sovereignty, territorial integrity, and self-determination for Greenland, a self-governing territory within the Kingdom of Denmark. The government plans to continue military buildup in the Arctic in collaboration with Greenland's autonomous government and international allies. This stance comes amid past tensions, including U.S. interest in Greenland, which President Trump had previously considered acquiring. However, U.S. Ambassador to Denmark Ken Howery confirmed that military action is no longer on the table.
