Bomb Threat Prompts Evacuation and Highway Closure at Georgia Power Facility in Coweta County
A Georgia Power facility, Plant Yates, located in Coweta County, was evacuated on Monday afternoon following a bomb threat. Law enforcement, including the Coweta County Sheriff's Office, responded to the site at 708 Dyer Road. Georgia Power confirmed receiving reports of 'threatening language' alleging an explosive device was placed inside a portable toilet at the construction site. As a precautionary measure, workers were evacuated, and authorities requested the public to avoid the area. Both state and federal authorities are assisting in the investigation, and Highway 16 has been temporarily closed. As of the report, it is unknown how many employees were at the plant when the threat was received, and authorities have not yet announced if any suspicious items have been found.
