Patagonia Faces Severe Cold, Temperatures Drop Below Antarctic Levels
The Patagonia region in Argentina is experiencing one of the coldest spells of the year, with temperatures dropping below those in Antarctica. The Servicio Meteorológico Nacional (SMN) has issued a red alert for extreme cold, particularly affecting Santa Cruz and Tierra del Fuego. Temperatures have fallen to -14°C, with wind chills making it feel even colder. The cold snap is part of a series of polar intrusions that have marked the winter of 2026, leading to significant snowfall and icy conditions that complicate travel and daily life.
