Record-breaking heat grips East, 30M face 90°F highs
A powerful spring heat wave is gripping the eastern U.S., with temperatures soaring 20–30°F above normal and threatening more than 150 record highs through Saturday. Nearly 30 million people are expected to see highs reach 90°F or higher, including major cities like New York, Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., Atlanta and Nashville. Fueled by a strong high-pressure system, this early-season heat resembles late May or June. Relief is expected by early next week as a cold front brings storms and a sharp cooldown.
