President Trump Defends Data Centers Amid Growing National Opposition
President Trump has publicly defended the expansion of data centers, calling opponents 'backward' and emphasizing their role in economic growth, lower taxes, and job creation. His comments, posted on Truth Social on August 31, come as bipartisan resistance to data center construction is growing across the U.S., with a March Gallup poll indicating that 71% of Americans oppose such facilities in their communities. Despite this opposition, Louisiana is actively pursuing data center development, with four major projects underway or announced, including facilities by Meta, Amazon, Delta Forge 1, and Hut 8. Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry has championed these projects, issuing an executive order on June 25 to address concerns about their significant power needs and ensure that companies fully fund their electricity requirements to prevent costs from burdening other ratepayers.
