Indian-Origin Couple Sentenced for Operating UK Companies Despite Ban
An Indian-origin couple, Bharat Jogia and Louise Jogia, have been sentenced for breaching a disqualification order in the UK. Bharat Jogia, 71, was previously disqualified as a company director for 13 years in 2014 after being involved in a tax fraud scheme with Jogia Jewellers (UK) Limited, which wrongfully claimed over 2 million pounds from HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC). Despite this ban, he continued to control pharmaceutical companies Diamond Pharma Limited and BHJ Consulting Ltd. His wife, Louise Jogia, 57, aided him by acting as the official director of BHJ Consulting. Both were sentenced at Birmingham Crown Court, with Bharat receiving a nine-month suspended prison sentence and Louise a seven-month suspended sentence. They were also disqualified from being company directors for another 10 years.
