Parents Face Manslaughter Charges After Teen Allegedly Throws Statue, Killing Tourist
In a tragic incident in Naples, Italy, the parents of a 13-year-old boy are facing manslaughter charges after their son allegedly threw a statue from a balcony, fatally striking a tourist. The victim, Chiara Jaconis, was celebrating her 30th birthday with her boyfriend when the incident occurred. Surveillance footage captured the moment the statue, an onyx statuette weighing approximately 4.4 pounds, fell from a third-floor balcony and struck Jaconis on the head. Despite being rushed to the hospital and undergoing emergency surgery, she succumbed to her injuries two days later. The boy, due to his age, cannot be held criminally liable under Italian law, which has led prosecutors to charge his parents, accusing them of failing to supervise their son adequately.
