CDC Addresses Ebola Bundibugyo Virus Outbreak in Congo and Uganda, Emphasizes Low Risk to U.S.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is actively responding to an outbreak of the Ebola Bundibugyo virus in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda. Despite the outbreak, the CDC has assessed that the risk to the American public and travelers remains low. The CDC is focusing on educating U.S. clinicians about the virus, its history, and ecology, as well as the necessary steps for preparing, diagnosing, and managing patients with suspected or confirmed Ebola disease. The CDC is also emphasizing the importance of preventing the spread of Ebola viruses. A webinar is scheduled to provide further information to healthcare providers, featuring experts such as Peggy Honein, PhD, Deputy Incident Manager for the 2026 Ebola Response, and other CDC officials.
