Titanic Survivor's Life Jacket to be Auctioned on 114th Anniversary of Sinking
A life jacket worn by Titanic survivor Laura Mabel Francatelli is set to be auctioned, with expectations to fetch between $339,000 and $475,000. Francatelli, a first-class passenger, wore the life jacket during the Titanic's sinking in 1912. The flotation device, made of canvas with cork-filled sections, has been displayed in museums across the U.S. and Europe. Auctioneers at Henry Aldridge & Son report significant global interest in the item, which is one of the few remaining Titanic life jackets. Francatelli was traveling as a secretary to Lady Lucy Duff Gordon and her husband, Sir Cosmo Duff Gordon, and boarded Lifeboat No. 1 during the disaster.
