ICE Detains Army Soldier's Wife, Reverses Release Decision Amid Deportation Concerns
Deisy Rivera Ortega, the wife of Army Sgt. First Class Jose Serrano, remains in ICE custody despite earlier indications of her release. Rivera Ortega, originally from El Salvador, was detained by ICE during an immigration appointment related to her application for Parole in Place, a program protecting military families from deportation. Her arrest is linked to a 2019 deportation order for illegal entry into the U.S. Although initially informed of her impending release, ICE later reversed the decision, stating she would be deported to Mexico, a country where she has no ties. Her attorney is preparing a legal challenge to prevent her deportation.
