Four-Vehicle Crash on I-29 Near Brookings Results in One Fatality, One Critical Injury
A four-vehicle collision occurred on Interstate 29 near Brookings, South Dakota, resulting in one death and one person sustaining life-threatening injuries. The incident took place around 5:55 a.m. near mile marker 140, approximately seven miles north of Brookings. According to authorities, a 2018 Subaru Forester, driven by a 38-year-old woman from Toronto, South Dakota, was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of I-29. Simultaneously, a 2011 GMC Sierra, a 2024 Ford F-350, and a 2020 Chevrolet Trax were all traveling northbound in the same location. The Subaru collided with the GMC, causing the Subaru to stop in the roadway. The GMC then rotated and struck the Ford. Subsequently, the Chevrolet crashed into the stopped Subaru before coming to rest on the shoulder. The 19-year-old driver of the GMC, a Brookings man, died in the crash.
