Petersburg City Council Unaware of Data Center Developments, Calls for Better Communication
A recent report by BizSense revealed that four data center projects are underway in Petersburg, Virginia, catching the city's mayor and council members by surprise. During a city council meeting, Councilman Charlie Cuthbert expressed his lack of awareness about three of the projects, having only known about the Warrenton Group's development. Mayor Samuel Parham and other council members echoed similar sentiments, highlighting a communication gap between city administrators and the council. The projects, proposed by developers Menlo Digital, NuVu Real Estate, and Wagner Properties, were not widely communicated due to zoning changes that allowed data centers as a by-right use in industrial zones, bypassing the need for council approval.
