Connecticut Implements New Laws on AI, Data Privacy, and Workforce Protections
Connecticut is enacting a series of new laws effective October 1st, covering areas such as artificial intelligence (AI) and data privacy, workforce development, and highway safety. Key changes include new protections against AI and data overreach, requiring companies to obtain user consent for data usage beyond agreed purposes and to disclose when AI is used for job applicant screening. Geolocation data sales will be prohibited, and online safety laws will limit chatbots from discussing personal issues and mandate parental controls. Additionally, new legislation will improve workers' compensation for healthcare workers and teachers assaulted on the job, require job advertisements to include wage ranges, and enhance highway safety measures, including stricter penalties for distracted driving in work zones and for failing to stop for school buses.
