Texas Man Arrested After AI Chatbot Alerts Authorities to Elementary School Threat
Nathaniel Michael Carrasco, 22, of San Antonio, Texas, has been arrested and charged with making a terroristic threat after allegedly communicating plans to attack Serna Elementary School to an AI chatbot. The Anthropic AI chatbot, Claude, detected the violent threats and reported them to the FBI's National Threat Operations Center (NTOC). According to an arrest affidavit, Carrasco made explicit statements about obtaining a gun and 'shooting up kids' at the elementary school, which is located next door to his residence. He also allegedly requested images of 'dead school kids bleeding.' The FBI tentatively identified Carrasco, and further investigation by the Southwest Texas Fusion Center (SWTFC), utilizing emergency disclosures from T-Mobile, Charter Communications, and Google, positively identified him.
