Mexican President Sheinbaum Attributes Michoacán Violence to Organized Crime Arrests
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum stated that recent road blockades, vehicle burnings, and other violent incidents in Michoacán are a direct response to an operation targeting significant figures linked to organized crime. The Mexican Security Cabinet later confirmed that nine individuals were arrested in Michoacán, including the daughter and partner of Heraclio 'N,' also known as 'Tío Lako,' who is identified as a regional leader of a criminal organization operating in Michoacán and Jalisco. During the operation, authorities seized two properties, 64 vehicles, 16 firearms, grenade launchers, cartridges, chargers, drugs, eight improvised explosive devices, motorcycles, a drone, and tactical equipment. Following the arrests, blockades were reported on highways, prompting authorities to activate an anti-blockade plan to ensure free transit. The U.S. government maintains its highest travel advisory level for its citizens in Michoacán due to widespread crime and violence from criminal groups.
