House Republican Accuses Special Counsel Smith of Misleading Congress in Trump Investigation
Rep. Jim Jordan, the chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, has referred Special Counsel Jack Smith to the Justice Department for possible prosecution. Jordan alleges that Smith made false statements during his testimony about the investigation into President Trump's efforts to overturn the 2020 election results. The referral is based on Smith's December 2025 testimony, where he denied obtaining the content of lawmakers' communications. However, new records suggest Smith accessed text message contents through a separate subpoena. Smith's lawyers argue that his testimony was truthful, focusing on toll records, not message contents. The Justice Department has acknowledged the referral and will investigate the claims.
