Conjoined Twins Helena and Heloísa Die After Separation Surgery in Brazil
Conjoined twins Helena and Heloísa from Brazil, who were joined at the head (Craniopagus twins), have died following a 15-hour separation surgery in Ribeirão Preto. The girls, who were two years old, suffered cardiac arrest shortly after being fully separated. According to a surgeon from the medical team, the twins were already significantly weakened before the operation, having experienced multiple lung infections and requiring artificial feeding and ventilation. An earlier planned surgery had been postponed due to their fragile health. During the complex procedure, over 50 doctors and specialists worked to stabilize the girls' fluctuating blood pressure. Despite their efforts, both twins' hearts failed once the separation was complete, as reported by 'Globo'. The father of Helena and Heloísa expressed gratitude to the medical team, acknowledging that every possible effort was made.
