DOJ Removes Prosecutor Questioning Case Against Former CIA Director Brennan
The Department of Justice has removed Maria Medetis Long, the lead prosecutor overseeing an investigation involving former CIA Director John Brennan. Brennan, a critic of President Trump, was involved in the 2017 U.S. intelligence assessment that concluded Russia interfered in the 2016 election to aid Trump's victory. Medetis Long, a veteran prosecutor from the Southern District of Florida, informed her superiors that there was insufficient basis to charge Brennan. She has since withdrawn from the case, which was probing allegations that Brennan made false statements to Congress regarding the investigation into Russian interference. The DOJ has described the reassignment of Medetis Long as routine practice, although the reasons for her removal and her successor remain unclear.
