Nigeria Approves Revised National Biotechnology Policy 2026 to Advance Science and Technology Landscape
The Federal Government of Nigeria has approved the Revised National Biotechnology Policy 2026, marking a significant step in advancing the nation's science, technology, and innovation landscape. This approval was announced by the Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Kingsley Tochukwu Udeh, following a Federal Executive Council meeting. The original National Biotechnology Policy, introduced in 2001, had guided the sector for 25 years, supporting advancements in biomanufacturing, gene editing, and various biotechnology applications in health, agriculture, and manufacturing. The rapid global and local developments in biotechnology necessitated a review of the existing framework, leading to the development and validation of this revised policy by relevant stakeholders.
