Pittsburgh Sports Teams Launch Initiative to Combat Food Insecurity
The Pittsburgh Pirates, Penguins, and Steelers have announced a collaborative effort to address food insecurity in southwestern Pennsylvania through the '#BurghProud Challenge'. This initiative encourages participants to walk or run 30 miles over 30 days in June, raising funds for the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank via GoFundMe. The campaign aims to mobilize community support for the one in five children and one in eight people facing food insecurity in the region. The effort is supported by a $1 million matching grant from the Richard King Mellon Foundation.
