Italy's Financial Police Busts EUR 300 Million Streaming Piracy Ring
Italy's Financial Police have dismantled a sophisticated streaming piracy ring that caused approximately EUR 300 million ($348 million) in damages to rights holders, including major companies like Sky, DAZN, Netflix, Disney+, and Spotify. The operation targeted a technology known as CINEMAGOAL, which connected users' devices to foreign servers to illegally decrypt and stream content. The piracy network operated virtual machines around the clock, capturing and transmitting access codes for legitimate subscriptions to fictitious account holders. The operation involved collaboration with Eurojust and parallel actions in France, Germany, and other EU countries.
