Israeli Citizen Charged with Espionage for Iran, Allegedly Provided Sensitive Information
Nissan Aviv, a 39-year-old resident of Bat Yam, Israel, has been charged with espionage for allegedly providing sensitive information to an Iranian foreign agent. According to the indictment filed at the Tel Aviv District Court, Aviv engaged in contact with the agent through a Facebook dating group, where he initially interacted with a profile under the name 'Sharon,' later changed to 'BROWN ELIZABETH.' Aviv reportedly received cryptocurrency payments in exchange for information on missile strikes, sirens, and the state of civilian infrastructure during wartime. Prosecutors allege that Aviv knowingly maintained contact with the foreign agent and provided information that could benefit an enemy state. The indictment details that Aviv sent news articles, photographs, and updates on missile impacts and public morale in Israel. Aviv is accused of acting out of financial motivation, having received multiple cryptocurrency payments for his services.
