New 'Pink Floyd' Spider Species Discovered, Offers Pest Control Potential
Researchers have identified a new species of crevice weaver spider, named Pikelinia floydmuraria, in South America. This discovery expands the scientific understanding of the Pikelinia genus. The spider, which measures only 3 to 4 millimeters, is notable for its ability to hunt prey up to six times its size, including common urban pests like ants, flies, and mosquitoes. The species' name pays homage to the band Pink Floyd and its habitat preference for building walls, referencing the band's album 'The Wall'. The findings were published in the journal Zoosytematics and Evolution.
