Turkey Introduces Digital Nomad Visa to Simplify Residence Permit Process for Remote Workers
Turkey has introduced a Digital Nomad Visa, effective from April 2024, aimed at facilitating remote workers' ability to live in the country. This initiative, led by the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism, allows eligible individuals to obtain a Digital Nomad Identification Certificate, which can be converted into a short-term residence permit. The visa is not a standalone category but works within Turkey's existing residence permit framework, providing a structured pathway for remote workers, freelancers, and employees of foreign companies to reside in Turkey for up to one year. The program requires applicants to meet specific criteria, including age, education, income, and nationality requirements. The introduction of this visa aims to reduce the complications often associated with tourism-based residence applications by providing a clear, government-endorsed purpose for the applicant's stay.
