Jamaica Launches 'Restore for Sure' Project to Conserve Endangered Plant Species and Ecosystems
The National Environment and Planning Agency (NEPA) in Jamaica, in collaboration with the International Union for Conservation of Nature, Regional Office for Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean (IUCN ORMACC), has initiated the 'Restore for Sure' project. This initiative aims to conserve Jamaica's endangered plant species and restore critical ecosystems that support them. The project, funded by a US$4.52 million grant from the Global Environment Facility (GEF) with co-financing from the Government of Jamaica, targets at least 53 globally threatened plant species. Restoration work is planned across five conservation landscapes, covering over 740 hectares of priority areas, including Quaco Rock in Clarendon, Montpelier Ecologically Sensitive Area, Dolphin Head Forest Reserve, Long Mountain Ecologically Sensitive Area, and the Blue and John Crow Mountains National Park.
