California Faces Triple-Digit Heat: Cal/OSHA Issues Worker Safety Alert
Cal/OSHA has issued a heat alert as temperatures across California are expected to reach triple digits in many areas, including Southern California, the Central Valley, and parts of Northern California. Employers are being reminded of their legal obligations to protect workers from heat-related illnesses in both indoor and outdoor settings. Under Cal/OSHA’s Heat Illness Prevention Standards, measures such as providing water, shade, rest breaks, and training are mandatory. For indoor workplaces, protections are required when temperatures reach 82°F (27.8°C) or higher. Outdoor worksites must implement additional high-heat procedures when temperatures exceed 95°F (35°C), particularly in industries like agriculture, construction, and landscaping. The alert emphasizes the importance of monitoring local forecasts and maintaining compliance with heat safety regulations.
