President Trump Urges Senate to Pass Sunshine Protection Act of 2025 to End Daylight Saving Time
President Trump is advocating for the permanent elimination of Daylight Saving Time (DST) and has urged the Senate to pass the Sunshine Protection Act of 2025. This bill, introduced by Rep. Vern Buchanan (R-Florida), aims to end the twice-yearly clock changes. The U.S. House of Representatives passed the bill in July, but its fate in the Senate remains uncertain. Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-South Dakota) has expressed doubts about whether the legislation has sufficient support among senators. President Trump, in an August 4 post on Truth Social, described the practice of changing clocks as 'foolish, inconvenient and, in some cases, very costly,' stating that 'People are sick and tired of having to change their clocks twice a year.' If the Senate does not pass the bill before November 1, Americans will still observe the end of Daylight Saving Time for 2026, setting clocks back one hour.
