Senator Todd Young Honored for Advocacy in Great Lakes Maritime Revitalization
Indiana Senator Todd Young has been awarded the Legislator of the Year Award by the Great Lakes Maritime Task Force (GLMTF) for his efforts in supporting the Great Lakes Navigation System and revitalizing the U.S. maritime industry. The award ceremony took place in Senator Young's Washington D.C. office, attended by members of the GLMTF, shipping companies, shipboard labor unions, U.S. steel mills, and the Great Lakes Maritime Academy. Senator Young has been a vocal advocate for the construction of a new U.S. Coast Guard icebreaker for the Great Lakes, recognizing its importance for the steel industry and the broader North American manufacturing sector. He has also championed the SHIPS for America Act, which aims to rebuild U.S. maritime capabilities by authorizing new vessels, expanding the U.S.-flagged fleet, and enhancing mariner recruitment and training.
