Vice President Shettima Plans to Replicate Benin's Industrial Zone Model in Nigeria
Vice President Kashim Shettima of Nigeria has announced plans to replicate the successful industrial zone model of Benin's Glo-Djigbé Industrial Zone as part of President Bola Tinubu's industrialization agenda. This initiative aims to boost Nigeria's industrial development and ensure no region is left behind. Shettima, along with six Nigerian governors, visited the industrial hub in Cotonou, Benin Republic, to study its integrated value chains in cotton, cashew, and soybean processing. The Glo-Djigbé Industrial Zone, developed by the Beninese government and ARISE Integrated Industrial Platforms, has created over 25,000 jobs since 2021. The visit is part of Nigeria's efforts to integrate agriculture with manufacturing, attract private investment, and increase value addition to locally produced raw materials.
