Dallas Police Defend Use of Flock Cameras Amid Privacy Concerns
The Dallas Police Department is defending its use of Flock Safety license plate reader cameras, which have been instrumental in solving crimes but have also sparked privacy concerns. Since March, 25 cameras have been vandalized or removed, costing the city approximately $2,500 in repairs. Despite these incidents, Police Chief Daniel Comeaux emphasizes the cameras' role in public safety, citing their effectiveness in recovering stolen vehicles and solving criminal cases. However, privacy advocates and some residents are urging local governments to reconsider their contracts with Flock Safety, arguing that the technology constitutes mass surveillance.
