911 Calls Reveal Frantic Search for Missing Autistic Child Saylor Hayes in South Carolina
Newly released 911 audio captures the frantic moments after 5-year-old Saylor Hayes, a nonverbal autistic child, disappeared from a Pawleys Island-area vacation rental. Her father, John Hayes, made a desperate plea for help, expressing fear that Saylor, who was nonverbal and autistic, may have wandered towards nearby water. He described Saylor as white with brown hair and green eyes, believed to be wearing a bathing suit. Throughout the call, Hayes emphasized Saylor's autism and inability to respond to her name, stating she disappeared "within a split second" while he went inside to retrieve items for the beach. Saylor's mother, Geordyn Nichole Hayes, could be heard screaming her daughter's name in the background. Saylor's body was later recovered from the water near Hagley Landing.
