Timber Fire in Big Sur Expands to Over 12,000 Acres, Evacuation Orders Broadened
The Timber Fire in Monterey County, California, has grown significantly, now encompassing 12,616 acres and remaining 25% contained as of Monday morning, according to CAL FIRE. The fire has merged in its northern and eastern portions, pushing further into the Ventana Wilderness within the Los Padres National Forest. Evacuation orders and warnings have been expanded, affecting a large section of the Los Padres National Forest east of Big Sur Village. The Tassajara Zen Mountain Center is now under an evacuation order, leading to the cancellation of its guest season and the evacuation of students due to smoke and worsening air quality. High clouds, slightly lower temperatures, and a deeper marine layer are anticipated, which might lead to a slight reduction in fire activity, though overnight humidity recovery is expected to remain poor.
