NAACP Sues Elon Musk's xAI for Pollution in Memphis Neighborhoods
The NAACP has filed a lawsuit against Elon Musk's artificial intelligence company, xAI, accusing it of illegally emitting toxic pollutants into Black neighborhoods near Memphis. The lawsuit, filed in Mississippi federal court, alleges that xAI's datacenters in Southaven, Mississippi, and Memphis are operating without necessary permits, using methane gas generators that release harmful emissions. The NAACP, supported by environmental groups, seeks to halt the operations of these unpermitted turbines and address the environmental injustice faced by the affected communities.
