House Minority Whip Katherine Clark Faces Re-election Challenge in Massachusetts' 5th District Primary
U.S. Representative Katherine Clark, the House Minority Whip, is seeking re-election in the Democratic primary for Massachusetts' 5th Congressional District. Clark, who has served in Congress since 2013, is facing challenges from Jonathan Paz, a former Waltham city councilor and immigrant rights organizer, and Tarik Samman, a union organizer and Harvard Law School researcher. Paz, a 33-year-old, emphasizes his working-class background and aims to challenge corporate power, abolish Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), and initiate a green jobs revolution. He criticizes incumbent politicians for not adequately addressing the struggles of working-class Americans and for accepting large corporate donations. Samman, 27, also presents himself as a challenger advocating for generational change. The 5th Congressional District encompasses suburbs north and west of Boston, including parts of Cambridge.
