Boston Schools Implement Strict AI Usage Policy to Protect Students
Boston Public Schools have introduced a comprehensive policy to regulate the use of artificial intelligence (AI) within its educational system. The policy, presented to the School Committee, aims to safeguard student privacy and ensure responsible use of AI technologies. It prohibits unauthorized AI applications and mandates explicit teacher guidance for approved uses. The policy also addresses the creation and distribution of deepfakes and other digitally manipulated content, requiring incidents to be reported and managed according to district protocols. This initiative follows Mayor Michelle Wu's announcement to integrate AI fluency into the high school curriculum, making Boston the first district in the U.S. to do so.
