Warwick Building Committee Approves School Payments, Notes Potential Shrinkage of Construction Contingency
The Warwick Building Committee has approved a monthly construction payment of $14,252,587 for the city's two high school projects. During its meeting, the committee also sanctioned a series of change orders and contractor bills. A significant point of discussion was the project's contingency fund, which currently stands at $6.8 million. John Bates, representing the owner's project manager, informed the committee that this contingency could "go easily down to below two" million dollars. This potential reduction is attributed to forecasted costs not yet under contract, including moisture mitigation on concrete slabs, bleachers, and a press box for the Pilgrim field (estimated at approximately $1.5 million), environmental engineering, hazmat monitoring, and moving costs. Bates also noted that a major furniture and equipment purchase later in the year could fluctuate significantly with market changes, contributing to the tightening budget.
