French Defense Agency Successfully Tests Mica NG Missile from Supersonic Rafale
The French Defense Procurement Agency (DGA) has announced the successful test firing of the MBDA Mica NG missile from a Dassault Aviation Rafale aircraft flying at supersonic speeds. Conducted on June 1 at the DGA's Mediterranean Missile Testing Center, the test involved an infrared seeker and was part of a broader qualification process for the enhanced air-to-air missile. The test was a collaborative effort involving manufacturers and the French Air and Space Force. The Mica NG missile, which can utilize either infrared or radar sensors, is undergoing updates to its motor, warhead, and sensors, with Thales providing a new radar sensor and Safran upgrading the infrared seeker. The recent test aimed to validate the performance of the infrared seeker under high-speed conditions, and the design successfully passed. This was the second firing of the missile from a Rafale, with further trials planned to ensure the missile's readiness for initial delivery.
