Current AI Initiative Aims to Democratize AI Access and Preserve Cultural Heritage
Current AI, a non-profit organization founded by Martin Tisne in February 2025, is working to create a public AI infrastructure that is free and accessible to everyone, similar to the World Wide Web. This initiative seeks to counter the dominance of private corporations in the AI sector, which often prioritize profit over accessibility. In collaboration with the Indian government's Bhashini division, Current AI has developed a device called Suno Sutra, which provides AI services in 22 Indian languages without requiring an internet connection. This is particularly beneficial for agricultural workers and residents in remote areas who do not speak English. The project has received significant financial backing, including $100 million from the French government and additional contributions from organizations like the Ford Foundation and Salesforce, totaling $400 million.
