Philadelphia's New Scholarship Initiative Expands Education Options for Displaced Students
The Philadelphia Board of Education's recent decision to close 17 public schools due to declining enrollment has prompted a significant response from local educational institutions. Liguori Academy, a private high school in Kensington, is preparing to expand its enrollment to accommodate some of the 4,000 students affected by these closures. This expansion is supported by the Opportunity Knocks Scholarship, a new initiative providing $8,000 annually to 500 students displaced by the closures. The scholarship, funded by the Yass Prize, aims to offer these students access to 16 private schools in Philadelphia, including Liguori Academy. The academy, known for its personalized education approach, offers students industry-recognized certifications and career immersion opportunities.
