Congressman Lieu and Calvert Advocate for California as Site for U.S. Space Academy
Congressman Ken Calvert (CA-41) and Congressman Ted Lieu (CA-36), co-chairs of the California Aerospace Caucus, have sent a letter to NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman, urging consideration of California as the location for the new United States Space Academy. This initiative follows an Executive Order signed by President Trump on August 28, 2026, to establish the nation's first U.S. Space Academy. Both congressmen emphasize California's historical contributions to American space exploration and its extensive educational opportunities as key reasons for their recommendation. The state is home to multiple NASA centers, including the Jet Propulsion Lab and Ames Research Center, as well as Vandenberg Space Force Base, which is the second busiest spaceport globally. Additionally, California hosts a diverse array of private aerospace companies, creating a robust ecosystem for space innovation.
