Chicago Department of Transportation Nears Completion of Intersection Improvements Around Senn High School
The Chicago Department of Transportation is finalizing construction work on four intersections around Senn High School, located on the Far North Side. The project, which began earlier this summer, involves significant infrastructure upgrades aimed at enhancing pedestrian safety and traffic flow. Two intersections, Glenwood and Thorndale and Glenwood and Ardmore, are being transformed into raised intersections. This design elevates the crosswalks and the center of the intersection to reduce vehicle speeds, improve visibility, and decrease the likelihood and severity of crashes. Additional improvements include curb bumpouts, which narrow the street at intersections to slow down vehicles and make pedestrians more visible, and raised crosswalks that elevate the pedestrian crossing areas. The project is expected to be substantially completed by August 24, when students return to school, although some minor finishing work and pavement striping may continue beyond this date.
