Panamanian Retirees Urge President Mulino to Expedite Law Expanding Discounts
The 'Movimiento Mundo de Jubilados' (World Movement of Retirees) in Panama has called upon President José Raúl Mulino to promptly sanction a bill recently approved by the National Assembly. This legislation aims to expand discounts for retirees, pensioners, and senior citizens on various goods and services. Guillermo Cortés, a representative of the movement, expressed satisfaction with the bill's approval, noting that his organization, along with Deputy Javier Sucre, played a key role in its development. The proposed law includes an increase in the discount on medicines from 20% to 25%, maintains a 25% discount at restaurants (including national and international franchises), and introduces a 15% discount on promotional food items. Additionally, it expands benefits for medical and hygiene articles, such as wheelchairs and adult diapers, with a 25% discount. Discounts on hotels would increase for weekend stays, and a 50% discount would apply to tickets for cinemas, theaters, and sporting events.
