University of Illinois Chicago Unveils Eccentric Computer Science Building to Enhance Campus Experience
The University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) has introduced a new architectural addition to its campus, the Computer Design, Research, and Learning Center (CDRLC). Designed by Seattle-based LMN Architects and local firm Booth Hansen, the building is attached to the original Science and Engineering Laboratories. The CDRLC is characterized by its undulating five-story structure and distinctive design elements, such as gently curving facades and a deeply sculpted grid. The building aims to create a welcoming and inclusive environment, featuring a sky-lit atrium and community-focused seating areas. The design incorporates energy-efficient materials, including tinted glass and bright white precast concrete, contrasting with the existing campus architecture. The CDRLC houses general classrooms, a visualization lab, a robotics lab, and dedicated spaces for the computer science department.
